    Natural Piano Center Website

    • Developed this ~300 document (pages, images, and interactive elements) commercial website using HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Flash elements.
    • Worked with business owners to revamp their logo to be more scalable from web to print
    • Provided clients with on-site training and guides so they could independently update their online materials

    CSU JTC211 Website

    • Created this site using HTML and CSS, following Colorado State University branding standards
    • Developed and hosted electronic resources on this site for students registered in JTC211, a course that guided students through the process of creating effective communication products, including photographs and websites
    • Required 18 students to use this site daily to access course notes and project advice and feedback

    Soft Machines Interactive Case Study

    • Designed a user interface to display the ~1,200 pages, images, interactive elements, and documents of the Soft Machines module. This interface was developed using HTML, CSS, and Javascript and was eventually used to house additional educational case studies.
    • Copy-edited case study content that was created by curriculum designers, and translated that content into something friendly for electronic consumption and navigation

    Interactive pH Scales

    • Digitized actual chemical pH indicator reactions using a high-resolution scanner to create 12 interactive pH indicator scales via Javascript
    • These scales were used by college students during laboratory work to determine the pH of chemical reactions using various indicators. The scales were viewed on a tablet computer embedded in the laboratory workstations.

    Brightfuture Website

    • Volunteered my design services to develop a website using HTML to represent the non-profit Brightfuture, an organization that focuses on empowering underserved youth
    • Created a branding for the organization
    • Served on the organization's Board of Directors, focusing on fundraising ideas and methods of raising money to support the organization's programs

  • Veterinary Teaching Hospital Advertisements

    • Developed a series of 8 advertisements that were shown on the Colorado State University campus to increase awareness that students, faculty, and staff can bring their pets to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for quality and affordable veterinary care.
    • Built advertisements in 2010 and 2011 to run in the local area Dex phonebook.

    • Layout, design, and content of full-color 8-page brochure describing the services and quality of care offered at the CSU VTH.

    Fort Collins Symphony

    • Developed a design concept used in all media for the 2009-2010 orchestra and symphony season.
    • Designed ticket vouchers, newspaper and electronic advertisements, bookmarks, postcards, and posters for the 2008-2009 orchestra and symphony season.
    • Completed layout of the 74-page program booklet, including 4 16-page rotating inserts and 5 rotating covers for the 2008-2009 orchestra and symphony season.

    • Designed a full-color postcard promoting the CSU VTH's unique compounding services.

    • Designed graphics to represent chemistry concepts, such as intermolecular forces and chemical reactions.

    • Designed newspaper advertisement piece for Youth Orchestra of the Rockies' 2008 Spring and Summer programs.

    I.S.C.I.T.E Program Brand

    • Developed a brand for I.S.C.I.T.E, a program meant to transform the way science is taught from instruction that separates “learning science” from “doing science” to one where students begin with a “driving question” that leads to a set of observations, that reveal a pattern allowing them to detect phenomena that is directly linked to their observations and to the underlying theory.

Jes Larsen is currently a Strategic Communications Specialist at Colorado State University who received her M.S. in Public Communication and Technology from Colorado State University.

She is an experienced web/print designer and content developer, her recent work including research and development of interactive features and design of private and commercial websites, including a current project developing and managing the creation of interactive content for a 50,000+ page family of sites.

Her research focuses on health and nutrition communication, with a particular interest in studying ways to improve how information about food is learned and communicated about through online channels.
